About the Area
The chalet is situated in the family friendly resort of La Norma , which is well known as the ‘Cosy Resort’. Situated in a forested area, the village is pedestrianised and features a central shopping area.
Walking in the area, you will experience magnificent views of the Manoire Massif along the marked paths, ideal whether you’re an experienced hiker or simply someone who enjoys leisurely walks in the fresh air.
Obviously, skiing is a large part of why many visit the area. There are 27 runs in La Norma alone, skiers of all abilities will find something to suit them, with 2 blacks, 11 reds, 6 blues and 8 greens to try out during your stay. As a bonus, the weekly snow pass for skiing here also gives you one day of access to each of the neighbouring resorts of Aussois and Val Frejus. There is also plenty of opportunity for snowboarders to sharpen their skills.
Just 15 minutes away, you can visit the Three Valleys area, one of the best for skiing in Europe, boasting over 600km of marked piste to try out. Staying in La Norma, you’ll have the option of paying an extra of just 20 Euros per day to ski here
With 283 runs in the Three Valleys area, there is plenty to keep everyone occupied throughout your stay.
In the Maurienne Valley, there are many more small and larger resorts, most notably at Termingnon-Val Cenis with a ski area of some 120km and at Bessans there is also a very large cross country area in the floor of the valley.
Of an evening, you can enjoy some apres ski entertainment in La Norma. At one of the many restaurants you can enjoy a delicious meal or have a drink and a dance in one of the selection of nightclubs and bars.
Although the area really is excellent for skiing, even if it isn’t for you, La Norma has plenty for you to do during your stay. Waterfall climbing, dog sledge rides and a mini quad circuit will keep the adrenaline pumping for the adventurous, whereas if you just want to relax, the Aquazen Centre is perfect for you. There, you can treat yourself to a massage, relax in the sauna, get a workout in the gym and much more.
Although many do visit La Norma for the skiing, it is even more beautiful in the summer, with beautiful scenery and warm weather making it the perfect place for forest walks and exploration.
A shared pool is available for use in the summer months and for the adventurous can try out cliff hanging rope walks in the gorge near the forts of Esseillon.
Other activities you can try out include a painting class, glass blowing and many different sightseeing trips to places such as the baroque churches and Saint Andres mills.
How to get here
There are several airports you can fly to, with the closest being Chambery at a 1 hour drive away. Other airports you could travel to are Lyon (2.5 hours away), Grenoble (2 hours), Geneva (2 hours) and Turin (1.5 hours). Flights are available from airlines such as Ryanair, BA and EasyJet.
Travelsupermarket.com is a good website to check to compare prices.
Car hire will be available at the airport, for the cheapest deals, try www.holidayautos.co.uk or www.auto-europe.co.uk.
Travelling by train, bus or driving are also options if you prefer.
Bookings can either be made direct with Sogenor at La Norma for the attention of Linda or Tel. 00 33 4.79.20.40.62 ask for Linda quoting ‘Chalets 93 or 94 (Chris Leigh)’ or via myself on tel 01224 882435 or mobile 07779 773567.
Please note that if both Demi-Chalets are booked together the rental rate will be approximately 80% of the combined rates. Both Demi-Chalets have locking interconnecting doors and can accommodate 12 people comfortably when booked together.
Please note that the resort is open during the winter season from mid December to mid April and during the summer months from July to end September. Outside these periods the resort is closed except for the resort management office at Sogenor. However both demi-chalets are available for hire in these closed periods although a car will be essential.
Also note that an outdoor unheated swimming pool available in the resort during summer months.
Sogenor, the resort manager and rentals agency, is above and to one side of the main underground car park in La Norma and is where you can collect and return the keys and pick up bed linen and towels. They can also provide baby cots, a laundrette, ski passes in winter and activity passes in summer. I believe a ‘half board pass’ is also available for purchase if required and a handy man (Patrick) is also available for anything that might need fixing. Cleaning at finish of stay can also be provided at a cost of about €46.
